books on wheels...

I've been thinking a ton lately about ways to work around the transportation issue that after school programs in the Delta face. a whole new fleet of awesome book mobiles could be just the kind of solution kids and families need to help them stay connected...

anyway, i thought it might be fun to look at the book mobiles have evolved and where they are now. who wants to help me make this happen

gift guide... the wee ones!

LOTS of new babies in our family this year. my aunt just had her second child (a girl to go with their crazy four year old son) and boone's sister and brother-in-law adopted twin girls (and already have two daughters). anyway, this leads to finding lots of gifts for little ones.. i'm not into giving barbies or fake guns (they have plenty of this) so the task is to find something affordable (yeah, right) lovely (easy enough), and fun. here goes...
what about an anne claire petit stuffed animal? they're snuggly, lovely, and could be keep sake (but they are a little bit pricey)

these are much cooler than the fisher price versions, don't you think?

these are useful AND pretty if framed in a child's bedroom or playroom...

when isn't sidewalk chalk fun? (the answer is NEVER) on top of being fun, fun, fun it's cheapy cheap cheap!

forget a child's room! i want these in MY bedroom (especially the fireflies and the blackbird on the website...)

and my personal favorite gift as a little girl, the cardboard box! because, well, it's not just a box. it's a playhouse, and a hideout, and a spaceship... (still afraid of looking TOO thrifty? give it with a copy of this sweet book about boxes and imagination)

keep on keepin' on...

i'm all moved in! AND the easter service at Oakhurst was beautiful.... i got to take a deep breath and relax and celebrate during the service yesterday, which i NEEDED so badly.

but now i've got to get through this week with a big scary presentation, two papers, and wedding planning.

can anyone find me two matching sleeveless white flower girl dresses that are under $100? the plainer and simpler the better. i found some pretty, pretty ones on jcrew but they're over budget and another smocked one but my mom's none to keen on it. anyway, i'd love some help finding something that looks just like this!

wedding wednesday....the wee ones #2

how pretty are these outfits for the flower girls? i don't care if the little girls wear these dresses in particular, but asked brett's sister to find something simple, not too dressy, and white.
anyway, i love these because they're so sweet... and they look like little girl dresses and not big people clothes in minature. i don't know..i've just got a thing about children to dress like children, i guess.

dresses via jcrew.

but then, there was this wedding... and i love they way these kids are dressed too. it probably won't work for me, but just enjoy the feel...

in the end, it doesn't really matter what they wear, or if they make a scene... (in fact that's something that we can tease them about for the rest of their lives... hehehe)
for me, it just matters that our family plays a big role in the ceremony and enjoys themselves a lot. but even if it doesn't really matter, the whole "aesthetic" is just so fun to think about! thoughts?

wedding wednesday...the wee ones #1

I know that kids in/at a wedding aren't for everybody...(if you don't believe me, refer to article here). but i really love them.

and i really love that they bring spontaneity and unpredictability (which to me =fun and humor) to really emotional events. on top of that, it seems like a good way to take the pressure off you and your honey if you don't relish the idea of a hundred or so people staring at you for forty minutes. anyway, if you're going to have children in/at a wedding, then you probably shouldn't expect them to be excited to do all the normal grown up things (like dancing and drinking) that your, er... more experienced guests will be excited about. anyway, since we're having my little cousin who is a bad (in a fun way) as our ring bearer, and boone's nieces as our flower girls. right now there are two, but my May there may be four! (they're in the middle of the adoption process) anyway, here are some ideas i found keep them occupied during the reception.and having fun during the reception... please share any others you've got.

i mean, what child (or grownup for that matter) doesn't like to color on tables, play little game of dress up, jump rope, or pirates?

school is in session...

well friends, i got engaged last weekend and have been blissfully happy about it nearly every moment I think of my sweetie! it turns out that while i'm supremely ready to be his wifey, i am not supremely ready (or cut out) to plan a wedding. ick.

but then i saw this wonderful poster from the reForm school store via a desert bride and felt all tingly and excited all over again... its the 100% absolute truth about us.

then i saw these little girls and thought of his two precocious nieces and how much fun they'd have with this doll house.

it's made out of recycled cardboard...since the nieces look just like these tots (but smile way more) i may just get them this for a birthday or christmas...

speaking of cardboard children's toys...according to my parents MY favorite christmas present ever was a giant cardboard refrigerator box and markers to color on it. i made it into a fort and didn't come out for three days...
this story may be strange to you, but i think it illustrates perfectly why i may not be cut out to plan a wedding with all the bells and whistles.

either way, stay tuned for more cool, simple, socially-responsible design (and MORE from the Atlanta area soon!)
